Some information collected from official Mafia 2 -forums:

GameStar reveals all details to the GTA killer

Mafia from the year 2002 was one of the most astonishing play phenomena which we have ever experienced. The fact that an East European developer studio widely unknown to date would conjure such a wreck from the hat, bordered on a sensation. The title swept the competition aside and hit even GTA 3 by the GameStar-reader's choice to the play of the year.

Now after six years it was to be revealed in the time as the project Mafia has developed. Christian Schmidt travelled in the Czech Brünn and visited the developer 2K Czech (formerly illusion Softworks). Read in the title story in GameStar issue 06/2008 what has performed the team during the last four years - and why mafia 2 could hit the competitor GTA next time.

Maybe, I am going to translate the it then for you

Mafia 2: Interview with Daniel Vavra

In to the interview with GameStar betrays Daniel Vavra of 2K Czech the secret of the mafia plays and how mafia 2 wants to continue the successful history.

GameStar: Daniel, honestly, what was your heaviest crime?

Daniel Vavra: Humph. I go with pleasure sometimes too fast.

What is funny to play a criminal?

D: It is always exciting to break the rules. These men do her own rules, they look incredibly cool. When you more exactly look, you notice that they are not so cool at all. In addition, the first mafia has fascinated many people because they knew this atmosphere till then only from films.

What has the first mafia made successful?

D: It was unusual for plays to of this time to lay so much value on the action. People have said in the approach to me: You are mad for what do you need so many animations? We have put on everything in the play round the story: The history came first, and from it we developed every single mission. At that time we have signed on even people with film experience for our team. It was a lot of work, but she has paid off.

To the prescription you remain loyal?

D: Indeed. My story script for the first mafia enclosed 400 sides, this for mafia 2 has 700. I have learnt a lot from the first play. This time the dialogs are substantially more realistic, for example, also because we use an easier language.

The first mafia appeared six years ago. Why does the sequel come only now?

D: The script for mafia 2 exists since 2003, but to us a lot has interfered. We have done at first Hidden and Dangerous 2 and afterwards have moved mafia for Xbox and Playstation 2. Then the time of the generation change came with the consoles. It was very difficult to come in Entwickler-Kits for the new hardware, above all, for the Playstation 3. To the fact comes that we have completely anew developed the technology for mafia 2. This has cost terrifically a lot of time. The engine with which we work now is about 1 year old. And, in the end, now: It is not easy to do this kind of play.

At that time as today you line up against the Grand-Theft-auto-series whose fourth part just appears. The play mechanics is similar very much.

D: But the play experience differs. We have decided to put on mafia more linearly than GTA. For it our missions are much more complicated. I do no big worries because of GTA to myself.

Grand Theft car 4 likewise plays in a city inspired by New York, mafia 2. New York seems to be largely in fashion.

New York was simply the seat of all big American mafia families. In addition, many of the places in the city have a big recognition value. However, to us the basic grid of New York was to "flatty", so we have added to our empire city a little San Francisco.

In a play about the mafia turns naturally a lot on power. How violent may it be?

D: I do not like violence if it is pointless. I hate plays in which massively people die only for the show effect. But if the power fits to the action and has logical consequences, it is in order. And in mafia 2 she has consequences. In addition, one may not forget: We develope a game for adults.

At that time for Germany the first mafia had to be defused.

D: This time this hopefully does not pass us any more.

Do you keep at least with the driving in the play to the tempo limits?

D: Ha-ha! No.

Mafia 2 - Gamestar reports

Today the newest issue reached the subscribers of the play magazine Gamestar and made happy them with a comprehensive Previewartikel to mafia II. We have summarised for you at this point the most important information clear and compactly:

- Story:

The action of the play is made up of two parts. The first one tells the rise of two young Italo Americans called Vito Scaletta and Joe Barbaro. Since the school hours quite a lot of crooked things have turned both. However, then Vito is caught and put before the choice: Prison or military service. Vito chooses the way in the war.As a soldier he fights on the battlefields of Europe. Only in winter, 1946 he returns to America Like so many war homecomers it is also not easy Vito to return in a regulated life. The only way out seems to be the mafia, a criminal organisation which has developed in last decades in the Italian city quarters. In the beginning Vito works as a Zuträger and small criminal and finds thus access to the mafia. Bit by bit Vito climbs up in the rank and gets the necessary respect. However, suddenly a war between three mafia families of the city breaks out (the Falcones, the Clementes and the Vinci) which Vito and Joe puts before a heavy decision.

- Linearity versus freedom of action:

This time beside the action missions exist also a lot of sidelines. This are chance tasks which can deal with the real main action nothing and get with their itself Vito Respekt and money. In particular in the first part of the history both is of big meaning for Vitos a rise. One can invest the besides deserving money now in new pieces of equipment, things, food and of course cars. This shows not only a bare game, but also makes sense playfully. If one goes to a restaurant, one can fill in his life energy. If one buys a car instead of it to steal, one also gets the vehicles which are not to be found on the streets of the city. One can put down his acquired pieces of jewellery against cash on parking bays.

- Vehicles:

There is more than 50 mobile mats in the style of the 40s and 50s. Sportwägen like the Frigate (convertible), saloons like the Jefferson, but also coaches, Militär-LKWs, pickup trucks and Leichenwägen count to it. In every vehicle sounds contemporary music from the car radio - from revue musicals through Bepop up to the rock'n'roll. However, you will have to renounce satirical-humorous sayings of radio-DJs in the style of GTA. To approach a vehicle, one can buy it either (the necessary change vorrausgesetzt) or themselves catch one on the street. Vito can crack in contrast to Tommy von Spielbeginn to any vehicle. Indeed, only a miniplay which sways according to value of the car in the degree of difficulty must be mastered in addition. However, alternatively one can simply also smash the disc, however, risks with the fact that the police becomes attentive to Vito. The cars drive themselves like in the first part again rather simple, however, behave a little more realistically. One gets a lot of better feeling for the weight of the cars. The damage model exists of real time effects (scratch, shot holes, splintering discs or freing parts) and precalculated distortions of the car body. If you aim exactly at the tank, the car explodes immediately and rises in flames. They bring the tyres for burstting and blacken the varnish, until only a verkokeltes wreck stays behind. If the car is damaged once, one can allow to repair it in a workshop. If one goes off the street, dirt about the car body lies down. A visit in the workshop should also repair this problem. Besides, you can let upgrade your vehicles there. This concerns the achievement as well as the optics. A new spraying, for Example, helps one in the escape from the police. It recognises since stolen cars by the appearance.

- Police:

The law guardians lay out control excesses like crossing a red traffic light now a little more tolerant than still in the predecessor. If one shoots, however, in GTA manner wildly around himself, the fun stops. Immediately several patrol cars are sent off. The policemen have search photos and can identify stolen cars.Accordingly one should think quite often about a visit in a local clothing business or the next workshop, before one pulls the rattle on open street. However, alternatively one can also bribe the city administration with bribes to get rid of the tiresome pursuers. However, also this is no free ticket for amusing murder of innocent passers-by, in the end, also has the mafia no interest in mass murder. The more nonsense one does, the further the respect sinks in the family.

- Close combat and gunfights:

The close fight wins in the second part in meaning. Vito can take up nearly every object and start as a weapon. If the magazine of his weapon is empty, he uses this simply as a percussion instrument. If he himself is met once, Vito cures himself bit by bit himself, as long as he remains in cover. The arsenal encloses basically all rattles known from the predecessor.

- Empire City:

Mafia 2 plays in a fictive metropolis called empire city which orientates itself roughly by New York of the 40s. Indeed, it does not concern a 1:1 copy.Indeed, famous landmarks exist like Brooklyn bridge, the empire State Building or the Chrysler-Building, however, at many places elements of other metropolises were also integrated. 16 square kilometres are enclosed by highways. In the middle there are the high rises of the Downtown, in the south the city borders on the sea. There (Southport and Oysterbay) are the docks. In the east the industrial quarter Millville, in the north is the noble residential districts of Kingston and Riverside, in the west the suburbs Hunters and Greendfield. There are not rural areas, however, any more.

- Technology:

Almost the complete surroundings are destroyable. Physics is calculated by Ageias PhysX technology. The graphic arts engine is against it an own development. Various objects like garbage metric tons and mailboxes can be driven about the heap, be hit shop-window.A chance generator determines which windows are lighted up at night. There the extremely detailed inside levels which add themselves seemlessly and without loading times to the city surroundings still come. Also rains and different seasons should be shown, indeed, as a function of play progress.

''Känns betydligt mycket mer intressant och konceptuellt än Just Cause 2.''

Känns allt mycket mer vemodigt i Mafia.
